CONTROLLERS

Luckily, fighting games can be played with all kinds of controllers, some of which are designed to be played only with them in mind. The variety of controller types and models you have available to choose from makes the genre more accessible to more people. Fightsticks are a classic choice because they recreate the arcade feel many players grew up with, and some people find the larger buttons and joystick more comfortable to use. Pads or standard controllers are the most common option since they come with most consoles, making fighting games easy to jump into without needing to buy extra gear. Leverless controllers use buttons instead of a joystick, which can feel cleaner, faster, and less tiring for some players, especially those who prefer more precise inputs. Keyboards are another great option, especially for PC players, because they’re easy to access and already familiar to many people. What makes this so important is that there’s no single “right” way to play. Different controller types give people more freedom to choose what feels best for their hands, comfort level, and physical needs. That flexibility helps make fighting games more welcoming, whether someone is playing casually, learning for the first time, or looking for a setup that works better for accessibility.
