INTRODUCTION

Ever since the 90s, fighting games have been known to be notoriously difficult. Whether it's high difficulty bosses, learning the controls, or executing hard combos, every fighting game has a certain measure of skill and difficulty that you must overcome if you want to truly enjoy and have fun with them. That said, not all fighting games are created equal. As time has passed and more technological advancements have been made, 2D fighting games of all kinds have been making newer entries with a lot more forgiving inputs and making controls a lot less complex to understand, with the goal to widen the audience of players who are able to appreciate and play the game. This seems like wonderful news, right? The more people that are able to play your game leads to more benefits such as popularity, sales, support, you name it! But in reality, depending on how the game plays and what mechanics it has in store, trying to make it more accessible and "for everyone" ultimately ends up hurting the gameplay loop and can lead to unfair advantages and disadvantages.
